PUK Increases Parliamentary Representation Across Iraq

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), a party committed to defending the rights of citizens, has emerged as the only political party to have increased its number of seats in Iraq’s parliamentary elections.

The sixth term of the parliamentary elections was held on Tuesday, 11 November 2025. According to unofficial results, the PUK secured more than 20 seats, making it the only Kurdish party to expand its representation in the Iraqi parliamentary elections.

Preliminary figures also show that the PUK is the sole party to have won seats across nine governorates — Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, Kirkuk, Nineveh, Saladin, Baghdad, Diyala, and Halabja.

Moreover, the PUK achieved the largest share of seats in the disputed areas, reflecting its growing influence nationwide. This success is attributed to the prudent and effective leadership of Bafel Jalal Talabani, whose policies in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq continue to uphold the legacy and vision of the late President Mam Jalal.
