Condolences Extended Following the Passing of Iraqi President’s Brother

Brother of Iraqi President, Shamal Jamal Rashid, Passes Away in Sweden.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) extended heartfelt condolences to the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, following the passing of his brother, Shamal Jamal Rashid, who passed away in Sweden at the age of 76.
PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani expressed his condolences in a personal letter to the Iraqi President. He wrote: “It is with deep sorrow that I received the news of the passing of your brother, Shamal Jamal Rashid. I extend my heartfelt condolences to you and your family and share in your grief. We pray to Almighty God to grant the departed eternal peace in Paradise and to bestow patience and comfort upon you all.”
Meanwhile, the PUK Political Bureau expressed its sympathy to the President and his family, stating: “On the occasion of the passing of your brother, Mr Shamal Jamal Rashid, we express our deepest condolences to Your Excellency, your family, and loved ones. We pray to Almighty God to grant the departed eternal rest and to bestow patience and comfort upon you and all of us.”
Qubad Talabani, Supervisor of the Secretariat Bureau of President Mam Jalal, also sent a message of sympathy, describing the late Shamal Jamal Rashid as a devoted Kurdish figure, loyal to his land and people. He wrote: “It was with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Teacher Shamal. His death is a great loss. I extend my sincere condolences to you, his relatives, and friends, and share wholeheartedly in your grief. I pray to Almighty God, the Most Gracious, to grant the departed eternal peace and to bless you all with patience and solace.”
Shamal Jamal Rashid was born in 1949. He leaves behind three children and four siblings. A memorial service will be held on Friday, 14 November 2025, at the Sheikh Farid Mosque in Sulaymaniyah.
