The registration deadline for parties, coalitions, and candidates was originally set to end on June 27, 2024. However, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has extended the deadline to July 2, 2024. Additionally, the IHEC has announced its readiness to supervise the Kurdistan parliamentary elections that will take place on October 20, 2024, as determined by the Kurdistan Region Presidency.
Jumana Ghalai, spokeswoman of the IHEC, told PUKMEDIA: "The IHEC has made the decision to extend the deadline for the registration of coalitions, parties, and candidates for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections to July 2nd, 2024."
"The deadline extension aims to provide additional time to the involved parties, particularly in light of the Kurdistan Region Presidency's establishment of a new date for the parliamentary elections," she added.
Based on the information given to PUKMEDIA, a total of 4 coalitions, 26 parties, 101 independent candidates, and 26 community candidates have officially registered to take part in the parliamentary elections in Kurdistan. Until now, the IHEC has granted two extensions to the registration deadline for coalitions, parties, and candidates.
Yesterday, the Kurdistan Region Presidency issued another decree to establish a new date for the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections. The IHEC has confirmed its preparedness to conduct the election on October 20, 2024.
