Global oil prices surged by more than $4 a barrel following Israeli strikes on targets in Iran and Lebanon, as investors reacted to growing fears of wider instability across the Middle East.

Brent crude and US West Texas Intermediate both recorded sharp gains during early trading, with energy markets unsettled by escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. Analysts warned that further military confrontation in the region could threaten oil supplies and disrupt global energy markets.

The rise in prices came after Israeli forces carried out strikes targeting sites linked to Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The attacks were followed by reports of retaliatory action by Iran, marking one of the most serious escalations between the two sides since a ceasefire was reached earlier this year.

Traders expressed concern that any prolonged conflict involving Iran could affect shipping routes and energy infrastructure in the Gulf region, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.

Market analysts said investors were closely monitoring developments amid fears that the conflict could spread further across the region. Concerns over potential disruption to supplies pushed energy stocks higher, while global markets showed signs of volatility following the strikes.

The Middle East remains one of the world’s most important oil-producing regions, and geopolitical tensions there frequently lead to fluctuations in energy prices. Previous confrontations involving Iran and Israel have also triggered sharp movements in global oil markets.

International leaders have urged restraint and called for de-escalation to avoid a broader regional conflict, warning that continued military exchanges could have significant economic as well as political consequences.
