PUK President meets U.S. Ambassador
The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Jalal Talabani, received the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, at Mam Jalal's house in Baghdad.
The meeting covered the most recent political, economic, and security events and disputes between Erbil and Baghdad. It also focused on the constitutional and political resolution of the issues in a way that responds to the desires of all parties and preserves regional stability.
The PUK's commitment to addressing the problems between Erbil and Baghdad has been underlined by President Bafel Jalal Talabani, who said: "People's livelihoods and entitlements cannot be linked to political matters because the lives of our people are more valuable than to be lost in political disputes and we will take every step to end this undesirable situation."
"It is our collective responsibility to keep the region peaceful, and the issue must be handled appropriately. There will be no stability unless we overcome the obstacles and work toward a better future," he added.
Another subject discussed at the meeting was the general state of the Kurdistan Region and the upcoming elections. President Bafel stated: "All national issues must be resolved by consensus by all parties, and we reject any attempt to do otherwise. We believe that safeguarding the Region's entity and our strength is dependent on our unity and solidarity, and we will continue to work toward that goal."
