The drone attack on Khor Mor gas field.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) strongly condemned the attack on the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, which resulted in the deaths of four Yemeni employees and the injuries of several others. The UAE characterises this incident as an act of terrorism and a clear breach of international standards.
"The UAE strongly condemns the terrorist attacks aimed at destroying security and stability in Iraq, which are a flagrant violation of the principles of international law," the UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The statement said the UAE supports all measures taken by Iraq to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability and fight terrorism.
There are currently five companies involved in gas production in the Khor Mor gas field, two of which are UAE's Dana Gas and Hilal. Khor Mor stands as the most expansive natural gas field in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
On Friday evening, April 26, 2024, two drone strikes occurred at the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, resulting in the deaths of four Yemenis and the injuries of four others. The origin of the drones remains unidentified, and an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The drone strike is the second this year, and a committee of inquiry has been formed by the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Governments.
The incident was condemned by the United States, UK, France, United Nations, and European Union, who all demanded a prompt inquiry and punishment for those responsible.
