Diplomats commend KRG PM and Deputy PM meeting

Diplomats and other international parties have welcomed the meeting between Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, and Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, which took place on Monday, May 8, 2023. They are hopeful that it will mark the start of a process of reconciliation and cooperation that will enable the government to operate effectively.
Rosy Cave, British Consul General in Erbil, said in a statement published on the official page of the British Consulate General:
"I'm delighted to see that the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister met today - an important step in making progress on key issues through constructive dialogue. A united Kurdistan Regional Government is in the interest of all the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. I hope this is the beginning of an agreed process of reconciliation and collaboration that allows the government to function effectively and deliver for he whole region."
Barbara A. Leaf, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, reposted Qubad Talabani's tweet regarding the meeting and described it as a "Great Move".
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Iraq Alina L. Romanowski said:
"I commend the leadership of KRG PM and DPM to come together to begin to resolve issues through dialogue. The whole country benefits when its leaders are focused on the needs of the people. Let’s build on the momentum of this significant step forward."
Cho Kijoung, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Erbil, welcomed the move and said in a statement posted on the official page of the Korean Consulate in Erbil:
"I would like to welcome the meeting between Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabany which took place on 8 May, 2023.
This meeting will certainly serve as a good starting point to come up with constructive solutions for many pending issues.
I wish sincerely that the good momentum be maintained and productive measures be set up through dialogue."
Moreover, the Italian Consulate in Erbil also commended the recent meeting between Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister, and Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region.
The Italian Consulate tweeted, "Italy commends recent political developments in the KRI and encourages dialogue among all stakeholders towards free and fair elections, stability, prosperity, and unity in the interest of the Kurdistan and all Iraqi people." Both Barzani and Talabani were tagged.
