Martyrs Foundation announces opening of a mass grave in al-Muthanna Governorate

On Sunday, the Martyrs Foundation in al-Muthanna Governorate revealed that a technical team had begun to open a mass grave that dates back to the era of the former Ba'athist regime.

The director of the office, Majid Naim al-Jiashi, said in a statement that the mass grave was discovered by a special committee who search for the remains of the victims of the former regime and was discovered in the Salman district and Busayyah district, which is 200 km from the center of Muthanna Governorate.

"The technical team is working to retrieve the remains who were Kurdish according to the available documents and testimonies. The Kurdish families were deported from their areas to Nugra Salman prison and Busayyah district, and they were murdered in this area," he added.

Al-Jiashi continued, "We are still waiting for the technical team to submit its final reports on the number of victims and the boundaries of the mass grave. Then classify the remains, take their samples and match them, and prepare them to be received by their families."
