PUK Bloc Condemns Attacks on Peshmerga and Urges Protection of Iraq’s Sovereignty

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi Parliament has condemned the targeting of Peshmerga forces, urging the federal government to uphold its duty to keep the country out of international conflicts.

In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the bloc said: “The PUK condemns the attack on Peshmerga forces in the Soran administration, carried out with several ballistic missiles, which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of Peshmerga and injuries to others.”

It added: “We also condemn attacks on security forces elsewhere in Iraq,” stressing that “Iraqi blood is sacred, regardless of affiliation or belief.” The statement highlighted that “this attack represents a clear violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, breaches international laws and conventions, and shows disregard for the lives of citizens who have no involvement in the region’s conflicts.”

Concluding, the PUK parliamentary bloc said: “While we condemn these unjustified attacks, we call on the Iraqi government to protect Iraq’s sovereignty, the lives and property of its citizens, and to prevent the country from being drawn into conflicts or becoming a battleground for settling scores.”
