PUK President: Kurdistan Region Was Never Part of This War

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has condemned the attack on Peshmerga forces as a violation of sovereignty of the country, urging action to prevent further incidents and reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to dialogue and stability.

The following is PUK President’s statement:

We strongly condemn the killing and wounding of a number of brave Peshmergas, extend our deepest condolences to the families and comrades of those who lost their lives, and wish the injured a swift recovery.

The targeting of the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces constitutes a violation of the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and we condemn it. We call on the Iraqi government and the international community to take all necessary measures to prevent any such attack from recurring.

We reiterate that the Kurdistan Region has never been a part of this war; rather, we have pursued diplomatic efforts to contribute to a peaceful resolution through dialogue to restore stability to the region.
