Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, stated that the region will not take part in the ongoing conflict, but is instead working to ease tensions, while condemning the attacks carried out against Kurdistan.

After attending the mourning ceremony for the Peshmerga and veteran fighter "Mama Ghafa", he addressed a press conference in which he extended his condolences to the families of the Peshmerga who were killed in the attack on their headquarters in the Soran administration, and wished those injured a swift recovery. He remarked, “We condemn any attack directed against us, as we have made clear since the outset of the war that the Kurdistan Region will not be involved and poses no threat to any neighbouring country.”

He added, “We once again reaffirm that the Kurdistan Region will not be part of the ongoing conflict; on the contrary, we seek to use our relations with all sides to help de-escalate the situation.”

Regarding the formation of the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, he noted that although elections were held a year and a half ago, efforts to establish the government are still under way. He explained that differences with the Kurdistan Democratic Party are natural, given that they are separate political groups, but stressed that under the current circumstances, greater unity and a stronger common position are essential.

On relations between the regional and federal governments, he said that efforts to improve ties are continuing. However, he pointed out that the ongoing conflict has had a negative impact on both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq as a whole. Relevant committees, he added, are continuing their discussions in an effort to resolve outstanding issues.
