The Iraqi Ministry of Finance is awaiting the list from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to disburse February salaries and is working on establishing a bank account for the March salary. Meanwhile, an Iraqi Parliament Finance Committee member stated that the Iraqi Ministry of Finance does not rely on the "MyAccount" program to establish bank accounts for the Kurdistan Region's salaried employees.
Mustafa Khalil al-Garaawi, a member of the Finance Committee of the Iraqi Parliament, informed PUKMEDIA that the Federal Court's ruling mandates that salaried employees in the Kurdistan Region must have electronic accounts at state banks under the Ministry of Finance. For this reason, the KRG should provide the Iraqi Ministry of Finance with a detailed list containing the names, job titles, and salaries of all its workers.
He also stated that the Iraqi Ministry of Finance does not recognise accounts opened in private banks in the Kurdistan region.
"MyAccount, which the KRG is now launching for its salaried employees, can be used by the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, but it does not rely on it as a trusted account," he added.
The Finance Committee member stated that the unpaid salaries from the last three months of the previous year must be returned to the employees. "This will be achieved through an agreement between the KRG and the Iraqi government," said Garaawi.
Regarding February and March's salaries, Garaawi said: "The February salary will be distributed based on the list of the names of salaried employees requested by the Ministry of Finance. However, the KRG has not yet provided the list."
"Furthermore, for the March salary, employees are required to have a government bank account. Setting up the account should not be difficult and may be completed within a month for the salaried employees in the Region," he added.
