The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has finished 90 percent of its arrangements for the upcoming sixth term of Kurdistan parliamentary elections, which are set to take place on June 10, 2024. Meanwhile, voters are currently receiving their biometric voting cards.
About 100,000 voters have received their voting cards in Sulaymaniyah
Amanj Aziz, head of IHEC's Sulaymaniyah office, stated to PUKMEDIA that the preparations for the sixth term of the Kurdistan legislative elections are ongoing. He mentioned that 90% of the work has been finished, with just the production of ballot papers and some logistical tasks remaining.
"The governorate of Sulaymaniyah has the greatest number of printed voting cards. Over the previous two months, around 100,000 voting cards have been returned to voters. Currently, around 15,000 voters receive their cards on a weekly basis," Aziz said.
IHEC's Erbil Office: IHEC's work continues
Meanwhile, IHEC's Erbil Office said in a statement that preparations for the Kurdistan parliamentary elections continue and that the rumours that previously talked about the suspension of IHEC's work on the Kurdistan parliamentary elections are untrue.
IHEC Spokesperson: Preparations for the elections continue
Preparations for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections continue, and the IHEC Spokesperson denied rumours of postponing the elections.
"We are continuing our preparations for the sixth term of the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, and any rumours about the suspension of the commission's preparations are false," IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.
"The commission is currently engaged in its usual preparations and is distributing voting cards in polling stations across the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, it is distributing biometric cards in 173 registration centres within the Kurdistan Region," he stated.
On March 3, 2024, Kurdistan Region's President Nechirvan Barzani announced the date of the sixth term of parliamentary elections for the fourth time and decided to hold the elections on June 10, and currently, the IHEC has completed 90 percent and continues its work for the elections.
