The 5th Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) concluded on October 1, 2023. Following the congress, the President of the PUK expressed gratitude towards the journalists and media reporters who had accompanied them in the past to provide coverage of the congress. Furthermore, the President pledged to uphold the legacy of Mam Jalal and create opportunities for the younger generation.

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani stated to the media following the conclusion of the party's 5th Congress: "The congress concluded very successfully, and there were excellent debates on the party's bylaws over the past five days."

"We pledge to protect and continue on Mam's path," he said.

"The leadership members were elected by the unanimous vote of the congress members and it's a pleasure that we emerged from the congress together with our heads held high," he added.

"The Kurdish people will witness a greater presence and influence of the PUK, and we will open a new door for the younger generation," he said.

President Bafel later appointed Haji Masifi as the Secretary of the PUK's Support Council.

The PUK's 5th Congress concluded with the election of members of the party's Leadership Council. The party's by-law was approved earlier in the day.

The PUK 5th Congress began on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in Sulaymaniyah. Originally scheduled to conclude in three days, Congress was extended to five days due to unfinished proceedings.
