PUK President: We Maintain Our Relations For National Interests

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Congressman Mike Garcia, a member of both the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds the Department of Defense including the Train and Equip program for Kurdish forces in Iraq, and the House Intelligence Committee, in Washington, DC.
In the meeting, which was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau, President Bafel Jalal Talabani praised the role of the international coalition, especially the United States in assisting and arming the Peshmerga forces, and stated that PUK appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the United States and the coalition for ensuring stability in the region. He also added that the formulation of a new strategy between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the United States, within the framework of protecting public interests and facing challenges, is a necessity at this stage.
During the meeting the two sides also discussed the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Middle East, stressing the need for continue dialogue to resolve the outstanding issues and disputes. President Bafel Jalal Talabani added that “our efforts are to maintain stability and welfare of our people and to shield the country from conflicts, and it is within this framework and for the sake of national interests, that we maintain our relations with countries in the region and the world.”
