On the ninth anniversary of the genocide
of the Yazidi Kurds and the terrorist attack on the Sinjar district and its
surroundings by the Islamic State (ISIS), the Political Bureau of the Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has released a statement.
The following is the
Politburo's statement:
This
year marks nine years since the most heinous act against humanity, the genocide
of Yazidi Kurds, and the brutal assault on Sinjar and its surroundings by ISIS
terrorists. Despite ongoing Kurdish efforts, coordination with the federal
government, and collaboration with Kurdish and Iraqi political parties, the wounds
of the crime have not yet healed. Even though these areas are no longer under
ISIS control, they have not been properly rebuilt, and many people live in
camps and tents.
Although a considerable
number of hostages have been rescued since ISIS's expulsion from these areas,
we must step up efforts to determine the fate of individuals who have been
missing since the disaster's inception.
We
believe it is everyone's responsibility to protect Sinjar and its surroundings
from all threats and dangers. After a period of national ignorance, this case
should not be used as a political trump card, and the suffering of our
relatives should cease.
We honor the departed
spirits of the Sinjar martyrs and send our condolences to their families on
this unfortunate occasion.

Kurdistan
