PUK President meets US State Department's Counter-Terrorism Coordinator
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Elizabeth Richard, the U.S. State Department's Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, in Washington, DC.
In a meeting, which was attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau, the two sides discussed the security situation in the region, fighting terrorism and continued military and intelligence coordination.
President Bafel Jalal Talabani praised the role of the international coalition forces, especially the United States, in assisting and improving the military and intelligence capabilities of the Kurdistan Region and said that continued cooperation and expansion of coordination are important factors to combat the remnants of terrorism and to guarantee stability in the region.
During the meeting, President Bafel Jalal Talabani presented a detailed overview of the latest security incidents in the region and the means of protecting the lives of civilians. He stated that the threat of terrorism continues, ignoring their maneuvers endanger regional stability and become a serious threat to people's lives. Therefore, the continued coordination between the Kurdistan Regional Government, Iraqi and US forces within the framework of protecting the highest interests, is an important and effective step to eradicate terrorists and maintain peace in the region.
