The Iranian Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no direct talks have taken place with the United States, stressing that current contacts are limited to indirect messages conveyed through intermediaries indicating Washington’s willingness to negotiate.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said at a press conference on Monday, 30 March 2026: “Iran has not held any direct negotiations with the United States; what has been exchanged are indirect messages.” He added that “Iran’s position is clear, unlike the other side, which frequently changes its stance.”

Baghaei further stated that the demands reportedly conveyed to Tehran were “exaggerated and unrealistic,” stressing that Iran “fully understands the framework within which it operates in any negotiation process.”

On regional diplomacy, he noted that meetings hosted by Pakistan are taking place within a specific framework, adding that Iran has not participated, while welcoming any regional efforts aimed at ending the conflict, alongside the need to identify the party responsible for initiating it.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran would comply with all U.S. demands, warning that failure to do so would mean “Iran will no longer be a country.”

Speaking aboard his flight from Mar-a-Lago to Washington, President Trump described negotiations with Iran as “unpredictable” and reiterated that military action remains an option if necessary. He claimed Tehran had agreed to most of the fifteen points put forward by Washington, calling it a sign of Iranian seriousness, and expressed optimism that a deal could be reached soon, possibly within a week.

Earlier, President Trump also stated that the United States was engaged in both direct and indirect talks with Iran, referring to the involvement of envoys in the process, though he provided no further details.
