The leadership of the Iraqi Parliament has held an expanded meeting with the heads of parliamentary blocs to address a number of key issues related to legislative work and the country’s ongoing political process.

Discussions focused on preparing the agendas for upcoming parliamentary sessions, including the introduction of several important draft laws. Lawmakers also reviewed steps to finalise the vote on the Parliament’s standing committees, a move seen as essential to advancing legislative activity.

According to a statement issued by the Parliament’s leadership and received by PUKMEDIA, the meeting placed significant emphasis on the election of the President of the Republic. Participants underscored the urgency of proceeding with this constitutional obligation and breaking the current political deadlock, particularly in light of the security and economic challenges facing the country.

The statement confirmed that Saturday, 11 April, has been set as the date for a parliamentary session to elect the President.

Parliamentary leaders also called on political blocs to assume their responsibilities in meeting constitutional requirements and accelerating efforts to form a government capable of addressing Iraq’s pressing challenges.
