Imad Ahmed, supervisor of the Media and Awareness Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), reaffirmed that the PUK has consistently supported peace and is making every effort to promote stability across the region.
During a press conference in Sulaymaniyah, Ahmed said the party has never supported rejects war and escalation.
“We have never supported war, nor sought its escalation. As the PUK, we have always stood on the side of peace,” he stated, stressing the need to end the conflict as soon as possible to safeguard the people of Kurdistan and Iraq and ensure continued prosperity.
He emphasised that disputes between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad must be resolved through constitutional mechanisms, dialogue and meetings, noting that violence and irresponsible rhetoric will not provide solutions. “As the Region, we have sought not to be part of war, but rather to contribute to peace in order to protect our people,” he said, adding that Iraq is a democratic country that belongs to all its citizens.
“We, as Kurds, played a role in the overthrow of the Ba’ath regime in pursuit of peace in the region, and we remain committed to that same principle of peace today,” he added.
Ahmed further highlighted: “The Kurdistan Region has a strong presence in promoting peace across the region, and we do not want any party to fuel the flames of war. The Kurdish leadership also possesses the expertise to manage these challenges and conflicts, and we will not be drawn into the chaos in the region.”
