Passenger and commercial traffic has resumed at several border crossings between the Kurdistan Region and Iran following a temporary closure caused by recent security developments in the region.

The administration of the Haji Omeran International Border Crossing, located between Soran and Iran, announced that the border crossing will reopen to both passenger and trade movement starting Sunday, 15 March 2026.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the administration said the reopening was coordinated with the corresponding Tamarchin Customs Crossing in the Islamic Republic of Iran, confirming that operations will gradually return to normal levels.

The statement added that the decision allows the resumption of tourism and commercial activities. Traders, companies, importers, exporters and citizens of the Kurdistan Region were urged to resume travel and trade through the crossing in accordance with established procedures to facilitate the movement of goods between the two sides.

Meanwhile, the directorate of the Sairanban Border Border Crossing in the Penjwen district announced that trade traffic resumed on Saturday after the border crossing had been closed due to regional security and military tensions.

According to the directorate, the reopening was carried out following continuous efforts and in the presence of Mohammed Tahir, supervisor of the Bashmakh International Border Complex and director of the Sairanban crossing, along with the Iranian director of the crossing.

Authorities said the reopening will facilitate the movement of goods to Sulaymaniyah and other areas of the Kurdistan Region.

Iranian authorities had previously decided to close land borders with the Kurdistan Region amid escalating regional tensions and the launch of U.S. and Israeli attacks targeting sites inside Iran, which led to the suspension of operations at several border crossings.
