Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani has warned about the escalating conflict in the region, stressing that the situation poses serious risks to everyone, including infrastructure projects, energy supplies, and supply chains.

According to a statement issued by the Iraqi PM's media office, al-Sudani said the regional security situation is deteriorating due to the ongoing military operations. He emphasised that the state, through its official institutions, is the sole authority responsible for making decisions regarding war.

He added that the bombing of diplomatic missions and coalition forces in Iraq could expose the country to serious consequences. The Prime Minister affirmed that the state, through its constitutional institutions, will continue to pursue all those involved in these unacceptable acts.

Al-Sudani also stressed that the state’s legal duty is to monopolise the use of force, noting that security forces have thwarted several attempts to target economic sites and diplomatic missions.

He called for promoting a discourse that supports social peace, rejects violence and extremism, and strengthens national unity. The Prime Minister added that Iraq has overcome terrorism and other threats and has moved forward on the path of rebuilding the country, noting that the government plans to implement more reconstruction projects in the coming period.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad urged American citizens to leave Iraq immediately, warning of a deteriorating security situation and a rising risk of attacks in various parts of the country, including the Kurdistan Region.

"Iran-aligned terrorist militias have encouraged and conducted indiscriminate attacks on U.S. citizens and targets associated with the United States throughout Iraq, including the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (IKR).  U.S. citizens should leave Iraq now," a the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad said in a statement on Saturday.

"Iran-aligned terrorist militias have repeatedly attacked the International Zone in central Baghdad.  The International Zone remains closed, with limited exceptions," the statement added. "There have also been repeated attacks in the area around the Erbil International Airport and the Consulate General.  Do not attempt to come to the embassy in Baghdad or the consulate general in Erbil in light of the ongoing risk of missiles, drones, and rockets in Iraqi airspace."
