Qubad Talabani, Supervisor of the Secretariat Bureau of President Mam Jalal, visited Centre 1 of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Sulaymaniyah, where he met with Comrade Sarkawt Zaki, Supervisor of the centre, along with several deputies, administrators and party cadres.

During the meeting, held on Sunday (8 March 2026), Talabani congratulated the leadership and staff of the centre for their efforts, noting that they have successfully carried out their duties and established strong relations with different sections of the city.

He encouraged them to continue their work with determination, stressing that efforts must not slow down under any circumstances and that continued dedication is needed to further strengthen and develop the PUK.

Regarding the current regional situation, Talabani stated: “We will not be part of the war and will not take sides. However, we are ready to contribute to solutions and we support peace.”

He also referred to recent remarks by the PUK President in an interview with Fox News, noting that the president spoke clearly and frankly about the current situation and explained the party’s position and policy.

Addressing internal developments within the PUK, Talabani said the party aims to align its structure with the expectations of the public, noting that the current situation will not affect the reform process and the changes taking place within the PUK. He stressed that the ongoing reforms go beyond simply changing officials.

“Rather, it is a change in responsibilities and working methods, so that every comrade, regardless of rank or position, can serve more effectively and help convey the PUK’s policy to the people,” he said.

Talabani also highlighted the significance of the Sulaymaniyah centre, describing it as the “mother centre” of the party.

“We have programmes to further develop Sulaymaniyah in all sectors,” he said. “Sulaymaniyah is a city rich in culture, and in the future we intend to place greater emphasis on cultural and youth activities.”
