The repatration process of US citizens.
The United States Department of State announced on Thursday that nearly 20,000 American citizens have been repatriated from the Middle East since 28 February, as part of ongoing efforts to assist nationals in the region.
In a statement, the department said that “since 28 February, nearly 20,000 U.S. citizens have returned to the United States from the Middle East.” It clarified that the figure does not include Americans who have relocated to other countries or those who have left the region but are still travelling back to the United States.
The department added that, under the direction of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, charter flights and ground transportation services have been arranged to support American citizens seeking to leave the region. Officials noted that the evacuation operations are expected to expand, with additional charter flights and transportation options continuing to be deployed.
According to the statement, an emergency response system has also been established for U.S. citizens in Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Palestine. Through the system, Americans in these locations can complete a form to receive direct updates on available charter flights and ground transportation options.
The department further stated that its 24/7 task force has already assisted more than 10,000 Americans abroad, providing security guidance and travel assistance as part of the ongoing response efforts.
