The Iraqi Parliament's session.
The Iraqi Parliament convened its tenth session of the sixth electoral term, within the first legislative year and first legislative chapter, on Tuesday, 17 February 2026. The session was chaired by Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.
According to a statement issued by Parliament’s Media Office, members voted at the outset to approve amendments to the internal regulations concerning the standing parliamentary committees. The number of committees has now been set at 22.
The amendments include the creation of a new Committee on Border Crossings and the Protection of National Products, as well as revisions to articles governing the organisation and functioning of the committees.
During the same session, MPs voted to confirm Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Yarallah as Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army and Ammar Musa Kadhim as Mayor of Baghdad. The appointments were added to the agenda following a request by a member of parliament and subsequently approved by vote.
