Iraqi Parliament Moves to Amend Rules Governing Parliamentary Committees

The Iraqi parliament voted on Monday, 9 February 2026, to form a committee tasked with amending the internal regulations governing parliamentary committees. The committee will be chaired by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

According to a statement issued by the parliament’s Media Office, Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi opened the seventh session of the sixth electoral cycle of the first legislative year and first legislative term, with 216 members in attendance.

The statement said that lawmakers approved the formation of the committee to revise the internal rules of parliamentary committees, appointing First Deputy Speaker Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi as its chair. Following the vote, the parliament adjourned the session.

Under the agenda for the sitting, a number of members were also due to take the constitutional oath, while the parliament was scheduled to vote on the standing committees.
