In the presence of Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani hosted the regular meeting of the State Administration Coalition on Sunday evening.

The meeting was attended by President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, Speaker of Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi, along with leaders of political blocs and movements participating in the coalition.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting addressed a range of strategic issues at the local, regional, and international levels.

The coalition expressed its welcome and full support for the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, stressing the importance of serious dialogue and diplomacy to prevent the outbreak of war. The participants emphasised that military escalation would only deepen humanitarian and economic crises in the region and globally.

While commending the efforts of Arab and Islamic countries aimed at preventing conflict, the coalition rejected threats against Iran, describing them as violations of international norms and conventions. The meeting underscored the necessity of regulating political statements, media discourse, and actions in a manner consistent with Iraq’s national interests.

The coalition also strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack targeting innocent worshippers in Islamabad, Pakistan, affirming Iraq’s full solidarity with the Pakistani people in confronting extremism. Participants stressed the importance of enhanced international cooperation to eradicate the roots of terrorism.

On the domestic front, the meeting reviewed the current financial situation and emphasised support for essential government measures designed to strengthen sustainable economic solutions. The coalition reaffirmed its backing for the government’s economic reform agenda, including efforts to control border crossings, combat smuggling, curb tax and customs evasion, protect local products, develop national industry, diversify income sources, and reduce dependence on oil revenues.

The issue of Islamic State (IS) prisoners transferred from Syria to Iraq was also discussed extensively. The coalition supported the legal and judicial procedures undertaken by Iraq to ensure justice and accountability, and called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in this matter. It urged countries whose nationals are among the transferred terrorists to repatriate them and ensure they face justice in their home states.
