Iraq's Minister of Environment, Dr. Hallo Mustafa al-Askari, has been appointed as the country's Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Iraq's Minister of Environment, Dr. Hallo Mustafa al-Askari, has been appointed as the country's Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, where he emphasised on Sunday the importance of strengthening the integrity of the educational process and enhancing the quality of institutional performance.

In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Ministry on Higher Education and Scientific Research said that Al-Askari chaired a meeting with senior officials, during which he underlined the need to reinforce institutional performance and integration in a way that supports the quality of education and improves the effectiveness of academic and scientific services provided to society.

At the outset of the meeting, al-Askari expressed his pride in being entrusted with the management of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research alongside his duties as Minister of Environment, in accordance with a decree issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

He listened to the views and interventions of senior ministry staff, stressing the importance of improving institutional efficiency in light of ongoing digital transformation. He also highlighted the need to strengthen adherence to quality standards and academic accreditation, support productive scientific research, and develop frameworks for knowledge growth to ensure the integrity of the education system, its alignment with international standards, and long-term scientific sustainability.

According to the statement, al-Askari further stressed the importance of teamwork, effective assumption of responsibilities within legal frameworks, and approaching challenges as opportunities for development. He said these efforts would contribute to meeting societal expectations and enhancing public trust in higher education institutions and the services they provide.
