A senior delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by Qubad Talabani, held talks with Sarmad Khamis al-Khanjar, Leader of the Sovereignty Alliance, in Baghdad on Sunday evening, 26 January 2026.

The meeting focused on the formation of the next Iraqi government. Both sides emphasised the necessity for the incoming administration to garner broad support from all segments of Iraqi society, thereby enabling it to safeguard national stability and deliver services to citizens without discrimination.

Talabani presented the PUK’s vision for Iraq’s future and the forthcoming government, stressing the importance of resolving outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in Baghdad in line with the Constitution.
