The Supreme Judicial Council of the Republic of Iraq has released the official statistics for marriage contracts and divorce cases recorded across the country in December 2025. According to the report, reviewed by PUKMEDIA, a total of 27,002 marriages and 4,888 divorces were registered during the month, excluding figures from the Kurdistan Region.
Baghdad led the country in both marriages and divorces. The Baghdad/Rusafa Court of Appeals recorded 4,112 marriages and 798 divorces, while the Baghdad/Karkh Court of Appeals documented 3,237 marriages and 692 divorces. The Nineveh Court of Appeals followed with 3,064 marriages and 530 divorces, and Diyala reported 1,146 marriages and 343 divorces.
Other governorates also reported significant activity, including Babylon (1,567 marriages, 241 divorces), Najaf (1,363 marriages, 208 divorces), Kirkuk (916 marriages, 252 divorces), Dhi Qar (1,535 marriages, 295 divorces), Anbar (1,494 marriages, 300 divorces), Basra (2,481 marriages, 253 divorces) Wasit (975 marriages, 115 divorces), Saladin (1,059 marriages, 250 divorces), Muthanna (919 marriages, 92 divorces), Maysan (1,044 marriages, 71 divorces), Karbala (1,175 marriages, 245 divorces), and Qadisiyah (915 marriages, 203 divorces).
The report highlights ongoing family law trends in Iraq and provides a comprehensive overview of marriage and divorce activity in the country’s main governorates outside the Kurdistan Region.
