Iraqi Parliament to Hold Third Session of Sixth Electoral Cycle

The Iraqi parliament is set to convene its third session of the first legislative term of the sixth electoral cycle on Saturday, 10 January 2026.

With the start of its sixth term, the parliament has demonstrated a proactive approach, underlining its commitment to monitoring government performance, safeguarding public funds, and maintaining the stability of state institutions.

As part of this effort, the parliament has established a comprehensive schedule of meetings with seven key bodies: the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, the Integrity Commission, the Federal Civil Service Council, provincial councils, the Central Bank, the Martyrs Foundation, and the Pension Authority. These meetings will focus on evaluating performance, ensuring legal compliance, identifying shortcomings, and promoting the efficient and transparent delivery of services to citizens.

MP Ramyar Haider, of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc, told PUKMEDIA that next Saturday’s session will address non-oil revenues, exploring measures to regulate them, prevent waste, and ensure their equitable distribution. He added that the parliament aims to maximise these revenues and strengthen Iraq’s administrative and financial systems.

Haider further noted that the Council will host a series of financial and oversight bodies in its upcoming sessions to enhance Iraq’s fiscal position and safeguard against potential future economic crises.
