Iraqi Parliament to Hold Second Session of Sixth Electoral Term

The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to convene its second session of the first legislative season of the sixth electoral term on Monday, 5 January 2026.

Halo Jabari, a member of parliament from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, told PUKMEDIA that the session will include a vote on the parliament’s bylaws.

He added that lawmakers will also form a committee tasked with selecting members of the parliamentary committees, in accordance with the bylaws, alongside holding general discussions.

The Iraqi parliament  held its first session of the sixth electoral term last Monday, 29 December 2025, during which Haibat al-Halbousi was elected Speaker of Parliament with 208 votes. Adnan Faihan was elected First Deputy Speaker, while Dr Farhad Amin al-Atroushi was chosen as Second Deputy Speaker.
