The Joint Operations Command confirmed on Thursday that those responsible for the attacks on the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate will be held to account.
In its statement, the Joint Operations Command reported that “at 11:30 pm on Wednesday, the Khor Mor gas field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate came under a treacherous attack, resulting in a fire in one of the main storage tanks at this key installation. No casualties were recorded. This assault represents a direct threat to the interests of the Iraqi people and is a grave act of terrorism aimed at obstructing and delaying efforts to achieve security and economic stability.”
The statement went on to say that “the attack has also had adverse effects on the electricity network, particularly in the governorates of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, and has caused damage to the country's resources and energy infrastructure.” It stressed that “those behind this attack will be pursued and brought to justice, with firm legal action taken against all involved in this treacherous and cowardly act.”
The Kurdistan Region’s Ministries of Natural Resources and Electricity announced a complete shutdown of gas supplies to power stations following the drone strike on the Khor Mor gas field.
In their joint statement, the two ministries said: “The Kurdistan Regional Government has halted gas deliveries to power plants in the Region following a drone attack on the Khor Mor field.”
They added that “teams from the Ministries of Natural Resources and Electricity are in contact with Dana Gas to investigate the incident and work towards restoring normal operations.”
