The United States Special Envoy to the Republic of Iraq, Mark Savaya, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Iraq following the successful completion of the country’s parliamentary elections, describing the event as “a crucial step toward strengthening democracy and stability.”
In an official letter released on Thursday, Savaya praised the Iraqi people for their enduring commitment to democratic values, freedom, and the rule of law. He commended Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and his government for ensuring that the elections were held on time and conducted smoothly, calling it “a clear sign that Iraq is moving toward greater prosperity and sovereignty.”
“The Iraqi people have once again shown their commitment to freedom, the rule of law, and strong national institutions,” he wrote, reaffirming Washington’s continued support for Iraq’s democratic process.
Savaya further emphasised that the United States remains firmly committed to supporting Iraq’s sovereignty, reform efforts, and endeavours to end external interference and armed militias. He noted that Washington looks forward to collaborating with the next Iraqi government to deepen the strategic partnership in areas including security, energy, and development.
“The United States is committed to helping build a stable and prosperous future for all Iraqis,” the envoy concluded.
