Voting for Iraq’s parliamentary elections began at 7:00 a.m. (local time) on Tuesday, 11 November 2025, and will continue until 6:00 p.m. (local time).

Jumana al-Ghalai, spokesperson for Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), told PUKMEDIA: “The number of eligible voters stands at 20,263,773, distributed across 18 electoral districts, with 8,703 polling centres and 39,258 polling stations nationwide.”

A total of 7,743 candidates are contesting the elections — 5,496 men and 2,247 women — after 848 candidates were disqualified following a review of their files and completion of legal procedures. Candidates are competing across Iraq’s 18 electoral districts for 329 parliamentary seats, including nine seats reserved for the Christian, Yazidi and Feyli communities.

The IHEC stated that preliminary results of both the special and general voting will be announced within 24 hours after the closing of polls for the general vote.

Al-Ghalai clarified that voting is limited to holders of biometric voter cards, emphasising that these cards are a secure verification method that cannot be used by anyone else.

The special voting process, which took place on Sunday, 9 November 2025, recorded a turnout of 82.48%. Out of 1,313,980 eligible members of the security and military forces, in addition to 26,538 IDPs, more than 1.1 million voters participated.

According to unofficial results, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) achieved notable success across all electoral districts, with its vote share more than doubling compared to the previous elections.
