A UPS cargo aircraft crashed shortly after take‑off from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky, killing at least seven people and injuring eleven others, officials confirmed.

The McDonnell Douglas MD‑11F was bound for Honolulu when it failed to gain altitude, crashing near the runway and erupting into flames visible for miles. Among the dead were three crew members and four people on the ground.

A shelter‑in‑place advisory was issued as emergency teams battled fires. The airport suspended operations overnight, with reopening expected today, Wednesday.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA are investigating the cause, including why the aircraft could not maintain safe flight. The crash disrupted UPS’s Worldport hub, a major centre handling hundreds of flights and hundreds of thousands of parcels daily.

Governor Andy Beshear called the crash “catastrophic,” warning the death toll could rise. Investigators are reviewing flight data recorders, engines, and debris to determine the cause.
