Iraqi President Issues Decree Appointing 86 Ambassadors

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid issued a decree on Sunday, 7 September 2025, appointing 86 ambassadors.

The Iraqi Presidency said in a statement that Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid has issued Republican Decree No. (43), formally appointing the first group of ambassadors, numbering 86, and completing the procedures for their assumption of duty.

"In parallel, the procedures for the appointment of a second group of ambassadors are currently under review in coordination with the relevant oversight bodies," the statement added. "A further decree will be issued once all necessary requirements have been met."

On 26 August 2025, the Iraqi Parliament voted to appoint 93 new Iraqi ambassadors during a session attended by 169 members. Seventeen ambassadors are from the Kurdish community, 49 from the Shia community, and 23 from the Sunni community.
