The meeting of the Leadership Council
The Leadership Council members met on Thursday under the leadership of President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani in Sulaymaniyah.
The following is Leadership Council’s statement:
The PUK Leadership Council gathered under the chairmanship of Bafel Jalal Talabani and emphasised the completion of preparations for the Kurdistan elections on time on June 10.
The PUK President gave an overview of the most recent changes in the political landscape of Kurdistan and Iraq at the beginning of the meeting, which was held today in the Sulaymaniyah. He also made comments regarding the PUK's expanding influence in the surrounding area and stated that the PUK's sound policies, which have turned the nation's hope around, are what led to this outcome, along with a single speech and a single hand of leadership.
During the meeting, the Election Bureau's preparations and committee work were reviewed. A necessary evaluation of the PUK's political program and campaign discourse in all of the Region's cities and towns was also carried out.
A strong parliament and a government focused on serving the people are essential for maintaining the integrity of the political movement and our people's future. The Leadership Council expressed its views that the only way to achieve these goals is through free and fair elections. This will also protect and strengthen the Kurdistan Region's structure, improve citizen welfare, and develop our national experience.
Especially since the upcoming elections provide an opportunity for a democratic turnover of power and the renewal of the political process, we must proudly and unitedly insist on our constitutional, legal, and national rights within the context of the Iraqi political process.
