Iraqi President Stresses Constitutional Resolution of Outstanding Issues

Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid stressed that the outstanding issues must be resolved in accordance with the constitution when he met with Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, and his delegation at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad on Sunday, April 28, 2024.
They deliberated about the prevailing circumstances of the country, including its advancements and the progress made in the region. President Rashid emphasised the crucial need to strengthen security and stability as a fundamental foundation for the progress of the country in multiple areas, particularly in the economic, service, and livelihood sectors for citizens. He highlighted the significance of backing the government in executing its ministerial programme to fulfill the aspirations of the citizens.
The Iraqi President stressed the significance of visits between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in order to establish mutual understandings and bolster the framework of constructive and impactful dialogue. The objective is to address unresolved matters in accordance with the Constitution and the law while safeguarding the interests of all citizens. The President also highlighted the necessity of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the two sides, as it directly influences the resolution of shared issues and the prioritisation of construction, reconstruction, and development projects within the country.
President Rashid endorsed the establishment of robust connections between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, commending the current collaboration and coordination across different levels to tackle challenges.
The conversation also touched upon the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia' al-Sudani to the United States and the positive outcomes that are fostering the enhancement of relations between the two nations, particularly in bolstering cooperation in the areas of counterterrorism and providing economic and commercial support to Iraq.
The meeting also discussed the Turkish President's visit to Iraq, where he met with President Rashid and other high-ranking officials, and the memorandum of understanding that was signed to address unresolved issues between the two countries, boost trade, and establish the necessary frameworks for implementing the development road project.
The President of Iraq and the President of the Kurdistan Region have expressed their strong disapproval of the deliberate attack on the Khor Mor gas field in the city of Sulaymaniyah. They emphasised that these unlawful actions not only violate the country's sovereignty but also pose a significant risk to its security and stability.
Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, emphasised the significance of engaging in dialogue to address unresolved matters and to collaboratively coordinate efforts on numerous high-priority topics, particularly those pertaining to the living conditions and service needs of citizens.
He stated that the regional government is committed to resolving all concerns in a manner that guarantees fairness and openness while also promoting security and stability within the country.
