President Bafel: PUK and most political parties support having fair elections

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in Baghdad.
A new political phase and reducing tensions were the main topics of discussion at the meeting, while also discussing recent political events, internal issues in the Kurdistan Region, elections, disagreements between Erbil and Baghdad,
One of the topics at the meeting focused on the issue of elections in the Kurdistan Region and the perspectives of the political parties on the process. Regarding this, President Bafel said: "We and the majority of other political parties support having fair and timely elections, but the electoral law must be changed, the voter list must be cleared, and minorities must choose their own representatives rather than being used as pressure cards."
"These guidelines must be followed in order for fair and timely elections to be held," he added.
Bafel Jalal Talabani declared during the meeting that he supported national initiatives aimed at ensuring the new government's success and the implementation of its plans to deliver services and develop the pillars of statehood.
