Coronavirus kills over 90 health workers since its outbreak in Kurdistan Region

The Minister of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Wednesday that 96 doctors and employees of the Ministry of Health died of coronavirus since its outbreak in 2020.

Minister of Health, Dr. Saman Barzanji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rahel Faridoon, Governor of Slemani, Haval Abubakr, Director General of Health in Slemani, Sabah Hawrami, and the German Consul in the Kurdistan Region opened a German hospital for treating coronavirus patients in Slemani.

In a press conference, Dr. Sabah Hawrami, Director General of Health in Slemani, said: “The opening of the hospital is a historic day for Slemani as the people of Slemani now have a modern hospital and we thank the German people for this beautiful gift."

"The hospital is of high quality and can receive 100 patients and the health minister has promised to employ some of the volunteers who served during the coronavirus in the hospital," he added.

For his part, the Minister of Health said that 96 health workers and doctors died since the outbreak of the coronavirus.
