Ministry of Health warned Friday of the severity of the fifth wave that Iraq is witnessing while it indicated that a dangerous number of cases was recorded.
Iraq registered 1,328 covid cases on Friday which is worrying health authorities in the country.
The Director-General of Public Health, Riyadh Abdul Amir, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the percentages of the positive results of the positive tests are moving very quickly, indicating that it was 6% two days ago and became 9% and today 14% while it was 3% a week ago."
"This dangerous hike hints the entry of a fifth wave that may be severe," he added attributing the reason to the people's negligence in taking vaccines.
Abdul Amir pointed out that the ministry will not issue recommendations that affect the citizens' livelihood, explaining that the ministry resorts to personal measures, including wearing a mask in crowded areas, even for vaccinated citizens.
Covid infections have recently soared in Iraq with daily cases reaching over 1000. The country has so far registered over 2,336,000 covid cases with the number of deaths from the virus reaching 25,229 cases.
