The speaker of the Kurdistan parliament affirmed on Tuesday that the parliament will spare no effort to support cancer patients.

Rewaz Faeq, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament received a delegation from the Board of Advocates of Slemani's Hiwa Cancer Hospital.

During the meeting, the members of the board explained to the Speaker of Parliament the issues which the Hiwa Cancer Hospital suffers, from lack of medicines to the malfunctioning of some of the testing equipment of the Zhianawa Cancer Hospital due to old age.

The members of the board called for the amendment of Law No. (11) of 2012, the Law on the Cancer Aid Fund in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in order to pay attention and provide more services for cancer patients.

For his part, Dr. Rewaz Faeq, Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament, while supporting all their legitimate demands, promised to spare no effort to support the hospital and affirmed that she will appoint special committees to investigate the shortcomings of the hospital.

The cancer hospitals of Slemani have been suffering from a lack of medicine and medical supplies for a while now.

Small budgets allocated from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the ministry of health have limited the purchase of medical supplies and medicine in Slemani, further exacerbated by the debts owed by the health directorate to pharmaceutical companies.
