Minister of Higher Education: We will allocate 1.5 billion dinars for the development of scientific research

The Kurdistan Region's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on Monday that they will provide 1.5 billion dinars for the development of scientific research at the universities of the Kurdistan region.

Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education participated on Monday in the ceremony of exchanging the Koya University's president.

Dr. Mohammed Hasib replaced Dr. Wali Mahmoud as the new President of Koya University on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by the undersecretary of the Higher Education Ministry, the President and members of the Koya University council, and administrative units of the region. 

In a speech, the Minister of Higher Education praised the former president's role in serving the university and developing the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region and Koya and asked the university's staff to support the new president in the same spirit to improve the Koya University.

Dr. Qadir also spoke about the importance of scientific research and said: "Scientific research is the basis of the progress of society, government and institutions... hence, the governments that formulate future plans based on the results of scientific researches, are developed governments and can face difficulties successfully."

"To further develop the higher education sector in Kurdistan and pay attention to researchers at the universities of Kurdistan and with the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, we decided to allocate 1.5 billion dinars for conducting scientific research and those researches that serve important issues related to society," he said.

"We have talented researchers in Kurdistan universities, who annually conduct important research in different fields, so allocating this amount for research, will participate in the reconstruction of infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region," he added.
