​​​​​​​Salih Muslim elected as co-chair of the PYD

On Monday, the 9th congress of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) elected Salih Muslim as co-chair for the second time.

The election came during the second day of the 9th congress of the Democratic Union Party, held in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, under the slogan "In the spirit of the people's revolutionary war, we will defeat the occupation and build a democratic Syria", in the presence of 700 delegates of the party's members, offices and representations in northern and eastern Syria, Kurdistan and Europe.

During the elections that took place at the conference, Salih Muslim and Asya Abdullah won the confidence of the majority and were elected as co-chairs of the PYD.

The conference was scheduled to last for two days, but it was decided to extend it for a third day to form its committees and issue its final statement.

The ninth congress of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) is scheduled to end with a final statement to the public opinion.

The Democratic Union Party is a Kurdish left-wing political party established on 20 September 2003 in northern Syria. It is a founding member of the National Coordination Body for Democratic Change, and is described by the Carnegie Middle East Center as "one of the most important Kurdish opposition parties in Syria".
