Salar Mahmoud, Head of the Foreign Relations Centre of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has described the Kurdistan National Congress as an important platform for national mobilisation aimed at finding a solution to the Kurdish issue.

Speaking at the Kurdistan National Congress, Salar Mahmoud said the forum serves as a significant platform for Kurdish national unity and dialogue on resolving the Kurdish question at the international level.

He noted that the late President Mam Jalal Talabani had played a pioneering role in the establishment of the congress, stressing that the PUK, under the leadership of President Bafel Jalal Talabani, would continue to support the institution and its objectives.

“The PUK, as a governing force in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, recognises that many of the region’s problems cannot be resolved without addressing the Kurdish issue and engaging influential political actors,” he said.

Mahmoud added that the PUK has adopted a realistic and direct approach towards developments concerning Kurdish national issues, referring to a principle long emphasised by President Mam Jalal that achieving peace in North Kurdistan is key to resolving the broader Kurdish issue in the Middle East.

He further stated that, on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of its founding, the PUK had presented a project for a united Kurdistan Front encompassing all Kurdish political parties. He called on the Kurdistan National Congress to seriously discuss and support the initiative.

“If we remain united, no force will be able to reverse the consequences imposed on the Kurdish people since the Treaty of Lausanne,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Salar Mahmoud reaffirmed that the PUK has consistently regarded itself as a national force and would continue to support the Kurdish cause across all parts of Kurdistan without interference or preconditions.
