Minister of Higher Education: Education process should reflect needs of the market in Kurdistan Region

The Kurdistan Region's Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the preparation of an Academic and Industrial Advisory Board which will be tasked with further connecting academia and the content of curricula, training and scientific research programs, and conduct regular surveys of the skills needed for the labor market and the direction of economic development in Kurdistan.

On Saturday, Dr. Aram Mohammed Qadir, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, delivered a speech during the graduation ceremony of the 25th and 26th rounds of Duhok University at the Duhok International Stadium.

At the beginning of his speech, the Minister of Higher Education congratulated the newly graduated students for their hard work and dedication during their studies.

He also pointed out that their ministry has worked in the past three years to accept the most number of high school graduates into public education and benefit from the public universities' ability to the greatest extent. 

Dr. Qadir also told the graduates: “After graduation, you must continue to try to develop your skills and continue to learn throughout your life. I ask the Career Development Center at your university to help you in this regard because we must always remember the fact that the education process should reflect the needs of the market and the direction of the economic development of Kurdistan."

At the end of his speech, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research pointed to the serious steps taken to further develop technical and vocational education to benefit more from the local labor and make room for them in all fields of economy and industry. 

"For this purpose, the Ministry has prepared a strategy for the development of vocational and technical education and will soon be implemented with the assistance of the Ministry of Education," he said.
