Seminar at University of Sulaimani on Kurdish Journalism Day

The Media Department of the College of Humanities Science at the University of Sulaimani recalled the 124th Kurdish Journalism Day with the participation of the Film Production Department of the College of Fine Arts of the University of Sulaimani and the Slemani branch of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate.

The ceremony was held on Sunday at the conference hall of the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Sulaimani, during which several dialogue seminars were organized.

The subjects of the seminars consisted of "individual awareness in the era of the new media, the status of media in Kurdistan, the status of the Kurdish press in a new vision, and fake news in the Kurdish media."

Kurdish Journalism Day falls on April 22 which is the date of publishing the first Kurdish newspaper 124 years ago.

Kurdistan was the first Kurdish newspaper. It was first published on April 22, 1898, in Cairo, Egypt by Mikdad Midhat Bedirkhan, a member of the Kürdistan Teali Cemiyeti. In four years, 31 issues were printed in cities such as Cairo, Geneva, London, and Folkestone. It was an opposition newspaper published in exile (outside the Ottoman Empire) and supported by the Committee of Union and Progress and was published in Constantinople after the Young Turk revolution in 1908.
