The Intellectual calls for Europe to prevent the exploitation of Yazidis in Erbil

A group of intellectuals, clerics, businessmen, university students, civil society organizations, activists and media professionals in Iraq and the world sent a message to the European Union Parliament calling on it to continue supporting the Yazidis and other minorities in Iraq.

Here is the text of the message:

Dear the Presidency of the European Union
Dear the President of the EU parliament
Dear the Members of EU parliament

First, we would like to thank you for the significance you give to the Yezidis ethnicity and their rightous dossier.

During these days, a delegation under the name of the Yezidis and in cooperation with the representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Brussels visited the Kurdistan Regional parliament.

You have been informed previously throughout some recommendations and letters about the miseries and catastrophes the Yezidis have went through in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the world. The latest of these is the imposing of Mr. Hazim Tahsin Saaid as Amir and Ali Yas as Baba Sheikh of the Yezidis by the KDP without paying attention to the social and religious norms and rituals of the Yezidis. These two persons are not representing the Yezidis and their rightous rights and dossier in any means, rather representing their party (KDP), therefore we ask you not to deal with this group as representatives of the Yezidis.

Dear the President and MPs, you all know that:

1. It was the KDP and its military and security institutions that sold the Yezidis and their land (Shingal) in an inhumane accord to the terrorist ISIS organization in August 3.

2. The Kurdistan Democratic Party has taken over the Religious Spirit Council of the Yezidis, and turned their temples for its own partisan campainging place via threatening and oppressive policy.

3. It has been for eight years that the KDP in the territories under its power has kept nearly 400,000 Yezidis in refugee camps devoid of any humane measures for security and military purposes, and do not let them to return to their own land.

4. Everyone knows that KDP uses the Yezdis in the partisan rivalries against other parties, and those in the refugee camps for the voting purpose during the election.

Therefore, we call on the Presidency of the EU parliament, MPs and the committees affiliated with the religious minority affairs to continue supporting the Yezidis and other minorities in Iraq, but to not participate in any project aiming at oppressing and marginalizing the Yezidis and other minorities.
