The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Council of Representatives issued a statement regarding the 34th anniversary of Halabja's tragedy.
In five points, PUK stressed the need to support the people of Halabja Governorate, as follows:
As we commemorate this tragedy, we affirm to:
1/ Classifying the bombing of Halabja with chemical weapons as a crime against humanity and genocide and compensation for the affected must become an obligation on the country.
2/ Halabja must be addressed as a governorate practically. Must also consider it the 19th Iraqi governorate after completing legal, administrative, and necessary procedures related to this file.
3/ Both Regional and Central Governments must allocate budgets for rebuilding Halabja and upgrading its semi-destroyed infrastructure.
4/ Providing treatment for the injured and exporting those whose treatment requires hospitalization in advanced hospitals in the rest of the world.
5/ Giving more importance to the level of the injured, the file of missing children, as a result of the committed crime.
The Kurdish people, despite their repeated exposure to many genocides and ethnic cleansing over the ages, were, still and will always look forward to a common life with the rest of the components in which tolerance, coexistence, and peace prevail as it emphasizes brotherhood and cooperation.
